Activism & Engagement

Actions

Several organizations work on police accountability in Kansas City.

1. Attend BOPC Meetings

The Board meets at KCPD Headquarters, 1125 Locust, Kansas City. Meetings are open to the public with a designated period for testimony.

2. Contact Your Legislators

City Council members and Missouri state representatives need to hear that the current system is unacceptable. The state legislature is where the fight for local control will be won or lost.

3. Support Local Organizations

  • Decarcerate KC — Direct action, political education, support for incarcerated people.
  • NAACP Kansas City Chapter — Legal advocacy and organizing on civil rights.
  • Urban League of Greater Kansas City — Legal fight for local control of KCPD.

4. Bail Funds & Mutual Aid

  • Contribute to local bail funds.
  • Participate in community safety programs that provide alternatives to police — mental health crisis response, conflict mediation.

5. Document Misconduct

If you witness police misconduct: record video (if safe), note badge numbers and patrol car IDs, submit complaints to the Office of Community Complaints. Records matter even when the system fails to act.
